About us

Welcome to the Argaty Red Kites website!

Argaty is a working upland livestock farm which has been home to our family since 1916. A massive six generations of Bowsers have lived here. Niall and Lynn are the fourth, Tom and Sarah are the fifth and their daughters, Rowan and Ellie, are the sixth… that’s a lot of Bowsers!

As a family we believe in making our home a great place for nature, from the kites in the sky to the squirrels in the trees and everything else in between. We run the award-winning Argaty Red Kite project, established by Lynn and Niall over 20 years ago in partnership with RSPB Scotland. Each afternoon we give the birds a small supplementary feed and people come to see their spectacular flying and learn their history. We are lucky to have an amazing ranger and ecologist, Nicky, working with us as well as an incredible team of volunteers… we couldn’t do this without them.

We also run red squirrel and woodland bird photography and viewing hides, summer beaver watching tours, ATV buggy tours and a programme of evening wildlife talks.

In 2021, working with Beaver Trust and Five Sisters Zoo we reintroduced beavers to unfenced ponds on the farm, becoming the first private landowners in Scottish history to achieve such a feat.

If you’re looking for a quiet break in the Scottish countryside, Sarah runs Argaty Cottage, a 3 bedroom self-catering cottage.

Whatever takes your fancy we look forward to welcoming you to Argaty for an unforgettable wildlife experience.
